Description:

Manufactured in May of 1927 with standard markings and features before becoming the first gun engraved by Alvin A. White, who would go on to become one of the most famous and celebrated American engravers. White is best known for his time as a master engraver for Colt, with much of his art finding its way onto Single Action Army revolvers. This rifle features extensive broad floral scroll and wildlife scene engraving on the receiver with a stag on the right and a bear on the left along with the signature "A.A.WHITE". All of the engraving is cut through the finish. The included letter from White lists the rifle by model and serial number and states that it was given as a gift, and that it was the first gun he engraved. The documentation is particularly important for this rifle because even after advanced study one could not conclude the work exhibited here is by an armature let alone a first attempt at the art form! Clearly this demonstrates the innate God given talents of Mr. White.

Rating Definition:

Fine as embellished by a future master engraver Alvin White, retains 85% original blue finish with some smooth bright grey patina on the balance and the crisp engraving showing bright. The wood is very good plus with a few scattered minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent. A chance to own the firearm that kick started the career of one of America's most desirable engravers.
