This is an excellent example of some of the non-firearm work completed by former Colt Master Engraver Alvin A. White. There is a similar creation by White pictured on p. 296 of "Steel Canvas: The Art of American Arms" by Wilson. It is a miniature representation of a Wells Fargo strong box including a miniature "lock". The box appears to be constructed of primarily 18K gold with what appears to be sterling silver fittings, including the hinges, handles, latch, and "lock". The box weighs approximately 112g including the "lock", with an approximate gold weight of 84g. The heart shaped "lock" does not require a key and functions similarly to a necklace clasp. The lid is engraved with "WELLS FARGO" in an arch over "EXPRESS", and the bottom is stamped "A.A.WHITE/18K/STERLING". The interior is bare and ready to be lined in any way desired. This is a beautiful piece from the White collection that would be ideal for artfully displaying a precious ring or other small object. Reference: "Steel Canvas" by R.L. Very fine overall, wonderful execution and detail, certainly quality you would expect from Mr. White. Showing mostly bright gold some scattered light antique type patina, mainly concentrated on the silver fittings, and some light surface scratches overall.
