Extraordinary Consecutively Serialized Pair of Documented Alvin White Signed Wild West Themed Master Engraved and Gold Inlaid Smith & Wesson Model 27-2 Double Action Revolvers

A) Smith & Wesson Model 27-2 Revolver

Offered here is an impressive consecutively serialized pair of S&W Model 27-2 revolvers highly embellished by renowned Master Engraver Alvin White. Both revolvers were manufactured in 1962 and were returned to the factory in August 1969 for refurbishment before being elaborately engraved by White. An August 1969 ("8 14 69") factory return date is stamped on the grip frames, and a factory "B" and diamond factory refinish mark is stamped on the ejector shrouds. Accompanying American Arms Co. and A.A. White Engravers, Inc. invoices confirm that both revolvers were embellished by White. The embellishment was ordered in June 1969, and the work was not finished until May 1973. Typewritten on A.A. White Engravers, Inc. letterhead and addressed to American Arms Co., a letter by noted firearms historian R.L. Wilson comments on the 4 year project: "[T]his is the longest period we have had anyone's work since my being with Al in the course of the past eight years! So, not only do you have one of the finest pairs of S&Ws he has ever done, but it set something of a production record with us as well." The extensive scrollwork on the revolvers is patterned after work by 19th century S&W factory engraver Gustave Young. There are gold inlaid scrolls and borders with additional gold work on the barrels at the muzzle. Each revolver has a different, highly detailed "cowboy and Indian" scene on the side plate. These scenes were modeled after 19th century S&W advertisements. The S&W barrel markings are in gold. White's gold filled cartouche is found on the grip frames, and he has signed each side plate scene "A.A.W." Revolver "A" has matching serial numbers on the butt, cylinder and frame. Revolver "B" has matching serial numbers on the butt, cylinder, frame and ejector shroud. The revolvers are fitted with smooth S&W medallion bird's eye maple target grips. Comes with a foam lined carrying case.

ConditionExceptionally fine overall as embellished by Master Engraver Alvin White, retaining 99% plus of the S&W reapplied blue finish and showing a tiny blemish on the cylinder, otherwise the slightest handling marks. A impressive consecutively serialized pair of high art Model 27-2 revolvers by renowned Master Engraver Alvin White worthy of the finest S&W collections!
