Martially Inspected Civil War Remington New Model Army Percussion Revolver

An estimated 122,000 Remington New Model Army revolvers were manufactured from 1863 to 1875. Most of the Civil War era revolvers were manufactured under contract with the U.S. Ordnance Department. They were the second most widely issued revolvers by the Union and remained in use even after the war. This U.S. contract revolver has holes in the butt of the grips for use with a lanyard, "M B" on the butt of the left panel, U.S. inspector cartouches on each grip, small inspection marks throughout, and standard markings and features, including matching serial numbers on the barrel and frame.

ConditionVery good with 30% plus original blue finish (strongest on the sides of the frame). The period made replacement grips have mostly brown patina where the finish has faded, aged patina on the brass, and light case colors on the hammer. Some semi-circular scratches on the left around the hammer screw. Several heavy dings are visible in the left lower recoil shield. Mechanically fine. This is overall a very nice example of arguably Remington's most significant handgun models.
