The guard includes a rapier-style flat cup counter guard and a flat "D" profile knuckle guard, both constructed from German silver and decorated with sculpted scroll motifs as well as animal themes, and the grip is polished horn construction with engraved silver ferrule and cap. Price has not been positively identified, but the item is attributed as 17th century German construction.
