Description:

This revolver was manufactured in the mid-1880s and has a round blade front sight, "WATSON & HANCOCK/ 308. HIGH HOLBORN. LONDON." inscribed on the top of the rib, Birmingham proofs, "THE/ORIGINAL/MAKE/No 3" and "THE/CARTRIDGE/BRAND/[bullet emblem]" on the left side of the barrel, "61 95" inside a diamond on the right side of the frame, "455" on the back of the cylinder, a nicely checkered grip, and a lanyard ring on the butt. The cylinder has the unusual feature of two sets of cylinder stops which hold the cylinder tight in both hammer down and cocked positions. The case has a "WATSON & HANCOCK" trade label with the same address as the barrel and notes them as "Gun, Rifle, Fishing Rod/AND TACKLE MAKERS." They were previously W. Watson & Son and are listed at the 308 High Holborn address as Watson & Hancock around 1885 to 1890. The oak case has an empty cartridge block, a square glass oil bottle, and a cleaning rod.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 95% plus bright period replated nickel finish remaining, light but legible buffed markings, a few flaked spots which exhibit brown patina, and minor scratches and handling marks. The grip is very fine and has smooth finish, crisp checkering, and minimal wear from handling and storage. Mechanically excellent. The case is very good and has an altered replacement lock and some minor age and storage related wear such as some tears and worn spots on the lining.
