Description:

Manufactured in 1864 with this example featuring a highly desirable and rare L.D. Nimschke New York scroll engraving on a punch dot background. Masterful scrollwork is profusely featured on the frame and barrel, and engraved flourishes appear on the barrel at the muzzle, frame underside, area around the hammer slot, and butt. An acid etched scroll engraving with a swan is featured on the cylinder. The barrel rib has the one-line address, the cylinder has the patent dates marking, and London proofs are stamped on the barrel and cylinder. The barrel and frame are nickel plated, and the cylinder is blued. Matching assembly marks are stamped on the grip frame, barrel and cylinder. The period fitted case is lined in purple velvet and has a cartridge block holding 70 cartridges.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, retaining 95% original nickel finish with slight flaking on the balance. 95% original blue finish remains. The engraving and etching are crisp. The grips are also excellent with fiery colors. Mechanically needs cylinder stop adjustment. The French fitted case is fine with minor handling/storage marks throughout, absent lock escutcheon and high spot wear on the lining. A wonderful example of Nimschke engraving! Provenance: Dr. Gerald Klaz collection.
