Description:

Originally manufactured in 1892 at Erfurt Arsenal, this short carbine has been arsenal converted from a large bore military repeater to a small bore single shot sub-caliber training carbine. Traditionally associated with long range target shooters, the "zimmerstutzen" is generally believed to have been a means of keeping in practice during the winter months. To implement this change, a 7 1/4 inch long sleeve has been installed at the muzzle end of the barrel and a set of cuts made into the barrel and barrel jacket to make a new breech, which is fitted with a sliding dust cover. The firing pin has been replaced with a long arm fitted with a fixed rimfire striker and an extractor assembly which acts as a breech block for the sleeve and effectively operates in an "open bolt" mode. The original magazine hardware has been removed, with "6.Ch.4.2." on the barrel band conversion number "1009" on receiver, and a smooth hardwood stock.

Rating Definition:

Very good, with 60% of the arsenal blue finish, showing scattered spotting and areas of brown patina overall, some pitting on the barrel bands and bolt, and mild handling marks. The stock is good, with a number of scuffs, dents and light chips. Mechanically very good.
