Johnson Model 1941 Semi-Automatic Rifle with Bayonet

Blade front and adjustable 1,000 meter rear sights, the model and patent markings on top of the receiver, and a five-pointed star over "CRANSTON/ARMS/CO." in a triangle on the right side below the rear sight. The barrel is marked ".30-'06/41" on the flange and "CAL-7m/m", "X/G" and "(rising sun)/F/NA" on the chamber, with a one-line Navy Arms import mark added to the underside. Fitted with a two-piece stock featuring a checkered steel buttplate and a brown leather sling. Included with the group is a Johnson spike bayonet, 12 inches overall with a 7 3/4 inch blade and a leather sheath. In August 1940, the Netherlands Purchasing Commission ordered 10,200 Johnson Automatic rifles to arm colonial troops in the Dutch East Indies. The Japanese invaded and captured the Dutch colonies in December 1941 before most of the Johnson Model 1941 rifles could be delivered. The U.S. Marine Corps tested the Johnson rifle in 1941 and, in early 1942, obtained a limited number of the Dutch contract Model 1941 rifles as a war expedient rifle until they could receive the Springfield M1 Garand rifle, with a few of these rifles issued to the 1st Parachute Battalion.

ConditionFine, with 90% of the arsenal refinished parkerized finish, with pitting visible under finish, showing some mild spotting, handling marks and edge wear. The stock is fine, with a number of scratches and dents. The bolt catch is absent and does not operate, otherwise functions mechanically.
