Description:

This is a solid representative example of an early production Borchardt Model 1893 semi-automatic pistol that is complete with a correct pattern walnut shoulder stock, one magazine, and a spare dummy wooden magazine. These early model 1893 Borchardt pistols were the true forerunner of the world famous and historic Luger pistol. These pistols employed a unique toggling breech mechanism which was eventually adopted and refined by George Luger and later used throughout production of the Luger pistol. The top of the chamber area is marked "WAFFENFABRIK/LOEWE/BERLIN." with the top of the toggle mechanism carrying the German patent markings of "D.R.P./No. 75837". The right side of the barrel extension is marked "SYSTEM BORCHARDT, PATENT." The underside of the grip frame is correctly stamped with the serial number "767". The left side of the breechblock, toggle mechanism and barrel extension are all marked with the early German commercial "crown/B" and "crown/U" proofs. The left rear section of the barrel is marked with the German commercial proofs that consist of the "crown/B", "crown/U", and "G/172,28". It is fitted with a set of original grips that have the checkered center sections with the smooth border, both correctly numbered (matching) on the back sides. This scarce early semi-automatic pistol is complete with one original magazine serial numbered (569) on the base, an original walnut shoulder stock numbered "602" and cheekpiece numbered "523" on the back, and an original dummy magazine with the small brass oiler on the end.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 90% plus of the original blue finish overall on the pistol with only minor edge and high spot wear and some thinning on the grip straps. The smaller parts retain 90% of their heat blued color overall. The grips are very good with the right panel being revarnished, the left not. The walnut stock is very fine with a nice original color overall, 90% of the blue finish on the attaching iron and only a small pressure dent on the right rear end of the stock. A very nice looking early Borchardt pistol rig.
