Colorado National Guard Marked Winchester Model 1895 Lever Action Musket

The accompanying Winchester Gun Museum letter states factory records lists this musket was originally as a carbine in .30 caliber when assembled on October 13, 1899. There was no record of shipment. The right side of the receiver has the Colorado National Guard marking: "NATIONAL GUARD OF COLORADO." The top of the receiver is marked "1 D 13." The left side of the receiver has standard Winchester markings. The musket lacks a caliber marking. "KSM" inspector mark is stamped on the lever and buttplate. Pinned blade front sight, rear aperture sight graduate to 1,800 yards and marked "200," "300," "500," and "700" on the left side, bayonet lug on the front barrel band and musket stock with finger groove forearm, sling swivels and trapdoor buttplate containing a bore pull through. A Redfield receiver sight was added sometime in the 20th Century. These Colorado National Guard Model 1895 muskets are seldom encountered and when found generally show hard use.

ConditionVery good, retaining 30% original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina. The wood is very good with a stress crack on the upper handguard, a deep indentation on the forearm (right side) and minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent. A very uncommon Model 1895 missing from even the most advanced Winchester collections.
