Description:

Manufactured in 1860 with the desirable fluted cylinder which is only believed to have been used on approximately 4,000 revolvers mostly in the 3-8000 serial number range, with this specific revolver being an earlier number. The cylinder has the matching serial number and the correct "PATENTED SEPT. 10TH 1850." The other components also bear matching serial numbers, aside from the grip which doesn't have a visible number. The barrel has the correct "-ADDRESS SAML COLT HARTFORD CT.-" marking only used early in production. The frame is marked "COLTS/PATENT" on the left. The frame and back strap have the correct cuts for mounting a shoulder stock. Frames adapted for stock mounting are much less common on civilian Colts. We do not have a letter at this time, but research could reap benefits as many were shipped to the South.

Rating Definition:

Very good plus with traces of original blue and casehardened finish, 75% plus original silver plating with dark aged patina, smooth brown patina on the balance, mild scattered oxidation/pitting overall, and generally distinct markings. One edge of the wedge spring and the wedge spring screw are absent. It mechanically needs work: the cylinder does not rotate when the hammer is cocked. The grip is very fine and has strong original varnish, mild lower edge wear, and some scrapes and dings. These fluted cylinder Model 1860 Armies are always highly sought after. This revolver will fill an important gap in many antique Colt collections. It looks like it just came out of an attic; totally fresh!
