Hyde & Goodrich Saber

James Nevins Hyde and his brother-in-law Charles Whiting Goodrich founded the firm Hyde & Goodrich trace their origins in New Orleans to Hyde's first partnership in 1812 and were active as a partnership from 1829 to August 1861. The firm then continued on as Thomas, Griswold & Co. during the war and finally A.B. Griswold & Co. They were primarily dealers of a variety of "fancy" manufactured goods such as silver, cutlery, firearms, jewelry, watches, and other products manufactured mainly by American manufacturer's in the northeast or imported from Europe. They also had in-house silversmiths and watchmakers and supplied wares to multiple southern states. The sword has a roughly 29 1/2 inch lightly curved blade marked "HYDE & GOODRICH/NEW ORLEANS" on the left ricasso and a brass hilt with floral designs and a brass wire wrapped grip. It is missing the scabbard.

ConditionGood with gray patina and mild pitting on the blade, distinct marking, aged patina on the hilt along a soldered seam where the knuckle guard meets the cross guard, and a crack in the fine grip.
