Civil War 1864 Dated West Point Foundry Union Army 3-Inch 10-Pounder Parrott Rifle

The 10-Pounder Parrot Rifles were among the most widely used artillery pieces of the Civil War. The muzzle is marked "898 No 82. 1864. W.P.F./R.M.H. 3 IN." indicating a weight of 898 pounds, that it is the 82nd manufactured, was manufactured in 1864 by the West Point Foundry, was inspected by Richard M. Hill, and used 3 inch shells (some early 10 pounders used 2.9 inch shells). The rear of the tube is also marked "3 IN BORE." "RPP" is marked on the right trunnion for Robert Parker Parrott, the inventor of the Parrott rifle and the head of the West Point Foundry. "US" is marked on top, and the carriage is by Paulson Bros. Ordnance Corp.
