Civil War 1862 Dated Phoenix Iron Co. Model 1861 3-Inch Ordnance Rifle

The Model 1861 3-Inch Ordnance Rifles were among the best artillery pieces of the Civil War and continued to be used into the late 19th century Indian Wars. Only one reportedly failed, and it had been double charged. They were very accurate and lighter than some of the comparable rifled artillery in use at the same time such as the Parrott rifles. It features "US" on top, "JMW No 141 PI Co. 1862/817 lbs" on the muzzle (inspected by James Madison Whittemore, no. 141, manufactured by Phoenix Iron Co. in 1862, and 817 pound weight), and a Paulson Bros. Ordnance Corp. carriage.

ConditionFine with smooth black painted finish, distinct markings, and mild wear on the rifle and carriage.
