Exceptional U.S. Remington Model 1871 Army Rolling Block Pistol

Only around 6,000 of these pistols were manufactured in the 1870s and 1880s for the U.S. Army. They were inspected by Curtis R. Stickney whose initials are on the left side of the grip. The "P S" marked on the left side of the frame also stand for "Proofed" and "Stickney." The matching serial number is on the upper tang and inside the grip, and the assembly number "3597" is also on the grip straps. It has the standard sights. A Richard G. Gooding collection sticker is on the inside of the lower tang.

ConditionExceptionally fine, retains 85% of the slightly thinned original blue finish and 90% of the original case colors with the balance a smooth grey patina, and the hammer and breech block mostly bright. The wood is very fine with some scattered minor dings and scratches, and a crisp cartouche. Mechanically excellent.
