This interesting pistol appears to be mostly in the Model 1887 "Plinker" configuration. This being: the dovetailed notch rear sight on the round 8 inch military model style barrel, original sear pin hole not filled in, and the notch sight on the breech block removed. However this example, unlike the Model 1887, has a smoothbore .50 caliber barrel like the less than 200 Model 1871 Army pistols that were bored smooth. The top of the barrel is marked "REMINGTON ARMS CO. ILION.N.Y." and the late seven-patent date marking is on the left of the receiver like one other known Model 1887, listed in "Remington Rolling Block Pistols" by Landskron. "818" on the trigger guard, "818" and "343" on the back strap, and "285" on the grip. The barrel and forearm are unnumbered.
