Description:

This is a fine example of an extremely rare Mexican Government contract Colt 1902 Model Military semi-automatic pistol. This rare model is one of only a handful that were originally shipped to the Government of Mexico with few ever being repatriated back to the U.S. It has the small Mexican State Seal factory roll marked on the top front end of the slide. The pistol features the high polish Colt commercial blue finish, with niter blued trigger, casehardened hammer, and blue barrel. It is fitted with a set of real Mother Of Pearl grips The left side of the slide is marked with Colt's two-block, two-line address and patent markings that read: "PATENTED/APR. 20, 1897. SEPT. 9, 1902" followed by "COLT'S PT.F.A.MFG.CO./ HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A." The rear of the slide has the Rampant Colt logo behind the serrations. The right side of the slide is marked "AUTOMATIC COLT/CALIBRE .38 RIMLESS SMOKELESS" in two lines and the serial number marked on the lower left side of the frame. The left side of the trigger guard is stamped the Colt "VP/Triangle" proof with a capital "W" at the lower rear area of the trigger guard bow. It still retains its original military style lanyard loop on the lower left side of the frame and the original brass firing pin. The later production replacement magazine is blued and stamped "MIL/COLT/38 CAL." on the floor plate.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 65% of the original Colt factory blue finish overall with general light wear and blue loss overall with thinning and browning on the grip straps with a light gray patina on the edge and high points/transition lines of the slide. The markings are clear and sharp. The grips are also in fine condition with only a few very minor scratches in a couple places, which is very rare as these type of grips are very fragile and usually show extensive wear. Mechanically excellent. A fine and rare example of a Mexican Contract Colt Model 1902 Military model semi-automatic pistol. One will look along time to find another example!
