Fine Civil War Burnside Breechloading Percussion Carbine

These carbines were based on pre-Civil War designs by Major General Ambrose Burnside. Approximately 43,000 of these "Model of 1864" Fifth Model carbines with the distinctive guide screw at the center of the frame were manufactured circa 1863-1865, and this example shows the standard markings and features. Consecutively serial numbered with the following lot.

Rating definitionFine with 70% plus original blue finish fading to a plum tone along the barrel, 50% plus original case colors with fading from age on the frame and lock, 90% original niter blue finish, some slight oxidation, and the usual minor marks and scratches for a weapon of this age. The wood is very fine and has dark oiled finish, minor scratches and pressure marks, and distinct cartouches. Mechanically excellent.
