U.S. Springfield Armory .22 Gallery Practice Model 1903 Bolt Action Rifle

Popularly referred to as the Hoffer-Thompson gallery practice rifle and designed to simulate the standard manual of arms of the standard issue Model 1903 rifle by using .30 caliber cartridge adaptors designed to hold .22 short cartridges (not included). The rifle has a blued barrel, trigger guard, floor plate, barrel bands and bolt and oil quenched casehardened receiver. The rifle serial number indicates the receiver was manufactured in 1914. The .22 caliber barrel is dated "9-13". The rifle has an early style straight grip "S" stock with reinforcing bolts. The early handguard has a high hump with milled recesses. The receiver is stamped "22" on top near bridge, behind the clip slot, and the rear sight base is fitted with the 2,850 yard leaf sight designed for the .30-06 cartridge. The stock is the standard straight grip "S" style with grasping grooves, circled "P" proof on the underside of the wrist, and smooth steel buttplate.

ConditionFine with 40% original blue finish, areas of edge wear, mixed brown/gray patina, light scattered spotting, and handling marks overall. The stock has been lightly sanded and re-oiled with faint "circled P" proof on the wrist, small scattered dings, and mixed gray/blue patina on the buttplate. Mechanically excellent.
