Civil War U.S. Massachusetts Arms Co. Second Model Maynard Breech Loading Percussion Carbine

The two models of Maynard carbines were easily among the best firearms available during the Civil War and were used and well-regarded by both sides. The Second Model was manufactured in 1864 and 1865. Some were delivered late in the war and were issued and used by the 6th, 9th, and 11th Indiana Cavalry and the 10th and 11th East Tennessee Union Cavalry. It has a "pinched" blade front sight, three leaf rear sight, Maynard patent marking on the left side of the frame, Mass. Arms Co. address on the right side, and government inspection marks, including boxed "SWP" and "JM" cartouches on the left side of the wrist.

ConditionFine with 75% plus original blue finish, patches of vibrant original case colors, gray and brown patinas on the balance, some light pitting and oxidation, generally crisp markings, and mild overall wear including some scrapes and dings on the fine stock. Mechanically fine.
