Description:

This is a fine example of a WWII German MP-40 Submachine gun that was manufactured by the Steyr factory as used throughout WWII by all German forces. These were highly prized as war trophies during WWII and are even more desirable today and are one of the most sought-after WWII SMGs. They were lightweight, accurate, and easy to shoot making them an ideal SMG to carry throughout the war. Typically called a "Schmeisser" they are actually technically a "Machine Pistol" hence the "MP" model designation, since they fired a 9mm Parabellum cartridge. They are a blow back weapon which fires from an open bolt at approximately 500 rpm. They were produced by three primary companies, Steyr, Erma, and C. G. Haenel, starting in 1938, with over 1 million produced by the end of 1945. The rear receiver cap is marked "MP 40/bnz 42", and it has a stamped tubular sheet metal receiver with a ribbed magazine housing with the machined bolt and barrel assembly. The receiver tube, barrel, barrel nut, front sight, end cap ,lower trigger housing, and folding steel stock have matching serial numbers. It is fitted with a post war unnumbered fixed firing pin, bolt and modified recoil spring tube assembly. It has the traditional dark red bakelite grips and lower receiver cover. This complete with one original "M.P.38 u 40" magazine and a leather sling. Comes with the original firing pin numbered "234a".

Rating Definition:

Fine with 60% plus of the blue finish overall showing wear and handling over the years with general light blue loss and fading on the receiver and exposed section of the barrel. The bakelite is all very fine. Mechanically excellent. NOTE: This item is restricted as a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) that is classified as a "Curios or Relic" as defined in 27 CFR, 478.11. These weapons are still subject to the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478.
