Extraordinary Mexican Presentation Gold Damascened Astra Model 3000 Semi-Automatic Pocket Pistol with Holster

Manufactured in 1952. This highly embellished pocket pistol features a full coverage gold damascened finish with dark blue accents, geometric, floral, and scroll motif engraving, standard proofs on the left side of the frame, gold Astra logo at the rear, and bright finished small parts. The grips are faux pearl with inset gold damascened disks with "VIVA/MEXICO/SENOR" on the right, and a script name on the left believed to be that of Mexican General Marcelo Caraveo Frias (1883-1955), who participated in the Mexican Revolution, was elected Governor of Chihuahua in 1928 and participated in the Escobar Rebellion in 1929 with rebel forces under the command of General José Gonzalo Escobar. Although the Escobar rebels found early success, they were eventually defeated by Mexican government forces, and Marcelo Caraveo Frías was exiled to the United States. According to the consignor, the signature was identified by the General's son. The level of gold work and engraving indicates the finish as a 3004 series, according to the chart on page 180 of "Astra Automatic Pistols" by Leonardo Antaris only 135 pistols were produced in this grade. Includes unmarked brown leather holster.

ConditionExcellent with 98% plus original bright gold finish remaining, some areas of high edge wear, handling marks, and oxidation in the cocking serrations. The grips are also excellent with some small surface scratches and dings. Mechanically excellent.
