Desirable DWM Model 1902 Luger Carbine Complete with Matching Shoulder Stock and Case

This is an excellent example of a very desirable 1902 Luger carbine that is complete with an original matching numbered walnut shoulder stock. These carbines were DWM's attempt to a produce a lightweight rifle substitute to compete against the Mauser Broomhandle carbines. There were a total of 2,500 Luger carbines produced in two serial number blocks with this specific pistol being in the second block of which only 1,100 total were made. They all have a beautiful rust blued finish and straw color smaller parts. The unique features of these pistols are: a 11 3/4 inch barrel, short forend which housed a small spring accelerator mechanism, early long frame, flat mainspring, grip safety, dished toggles, and recessed/flat breech bolt. These were also fitted with the early style three position rear sight (adjustable from 100-300 meters) mounted on top of the barrel in front of the receiver and a bead front sight mounted on a ramp on top of the barrel. The top of the chamber is blank, and the front toggle has the DWM logo for "Deutsche Waffen und Munitions Fabriken". The full serial number (21859) is correctly marked on the frame extension and the underside of the barrel, with the last two (or three) digits of the serial number are marked on the bottom of the recoil lug, inside the forend, grip safety, trigger, takedown lever, side plate, breech bolt, toggle assembly and the back side of each grip panel. The pistol stock is completely original and is fitted with a black horn buttplate, lower sling swivel, and an original matching numbered (59) attaching iron. The magazine has a nickel plated body with the correct unnumbered, marked with a small bomb proof on the wood base. This fine pistol is complete with a custom made brass cleaning rod, and jag all housed in a custom purple felt lined display case. The case has five compartments that hold the carbine, the detachable buttstock, magazine and accessories. Provenance Former Dr. Sturgess collection.

ConditionExcellent with 90% plus of its original blue finish overall with light blue loss/thinning on the side plate, side of the barrel extension, muzzle and underside of the barrel where it rubs against the forend. There is also some blue loss on the lower rear grip strap/lug area where the stock has been attached. The smaller parts retains 75% of their straw colors overall. The grips are in very fine condition with nice distinct checkering on the sides, mixed with minor light handling marks on the sides in various areas. The stock is also in excellent condition with a nice original untouched oil finish with crisp original checkering on the sides showing only minor handling marks. The attaching lug retains 95% of its blue finish overall. The custom case is in fine condition with the lid having a beautiful burl walnut pattern with intact sides and corners with minimal handling marks. The inside is in good condition with rub marks in the felt in several areas with eh area around the magazine having come loose. A very nice looking high condition original DWM model 1902 Luger Carbine rig.
