Description:

This is a very fine example of a scarce early 1934 Mauser, "K" date military contract Luger pistol. There were a total of approximately 10,000 "K Date" P.08 Lugers, manufactured in 1934, with all K-date Lugers being extremely rare as most saw extensive service on the Eastern Front, where they had an extremely low survival rate. These were the first Lugers to use the secret "K-date" letter code indicating manufacture in 1934, concealing Germany's rearmament in violation of the Treaty of Versailles and are among the most desirable of all Nazi Lugers. The second subvariation is found in the serial number range of 1700-5250 which have the combination of both the Script and Gothic "S" markings on the various parts. This example has the standard script "K" date mark on the chamber area with the script "S" in the "S/42" markings on the front toggle. The right side of the barrel extension has the Gothic "S" over the boxed "O/37" acceptance proof, with a single Eagle firing proof. The major components are all stamped with serial number "1869" with the last two digits (69) on the smaller parts, with the noted combination of script and gothic letter marking on the various smaller parts. This Luger is fitted with a set of checkered walnut grips. The pistol is complete with a type 1 nickel plated Army magazine with the aluminum base, that is stamped with a "script S/1882/+/(boxed) O 37", with the "1" having been restamped. It is complete with a 1934 date black leather holster that is complete with the short 5 3/4 steel cleaning rod and a boxed "O/37" proofed takedown tool. The holster is marked on the back side "OTTO SINDEL/BERLIN/1934" over a single Eagle/WaA94" Waffenamt proof.

Rating Definition:

Very Fine with 80% plus of the original blue finish overall with edge and high spot wear with blue loss on the muzzle area, side plate hump and front frame rails with thinning and oxidation on the grip straps. The matching grips are in very fine condition with nice distinct checkering on both sides with light wear across the tops of the checkering mixed with some minor pressure dents on the front right edge. The smaller parts retain 70% of their original straw colors overall. Mechanically excellent. The holster is in fine condition with nice clear markings on the back with intact black stitching showing minor wear and scuffing on top of the flap, and front of the holster, mixed with some minor scratching and handling marks on the front.
