Description:

Originally manufactured with the Luftwaffe's traditional dark blue finish, this helmet has been subjected to field modification for improved concealment. A popular option when time and resources permitted, much of this camouflage work was improvisational, using whatever was at hand, such as vehicle paint to alter the color to something more local and assorted grit to roughen the texture, reduce glare and break up the outline. This particular helmet appears to have been slathered with a rough mix of concrete and fine cut straw, and then oversprayed in a combination of light tan, dark green, and very dark green bordering on black. Though never regulated, commonalities between helmets executed in certain areas have been witnessed, due to shared resources, especially the paint, and the heavy green and tan "tri-tone" pattern has been seen on documented examples from the paratroopers stationed in France during the Normandy Invasion. A single Luftwaffe eagle decal was covered during this process, and a few hints of the decal can still be seen peeking out from under the camo. The interior is marked "ET68" and "1952", with a brown leather chinstrap, and tan lining marked for sizes "57" and "68", along with the R.B. number "0/0250/0201".

Rating Definition:

Very good overall. Some scuffing and flaking of the camo finish has occurred, with a few areas of exposed metal, and the webbing appears solid.
