Description:

Chiefly manufactured in Germany, a small number of Luger pistols are known to have been routed through Switzerland, where they could be fitted with barrels that exceeded the lengths permitted by the Treaty of Versailles prior to further export to Abercrombie & Fitch Co. of New York, then the largest outfitting and sporting goods firm in the country. The barrels were manufactured by Hammerli, who marked the barrels "ABERCROMBIE & FITCH Co NEW YORK/MADE IN SWITZERLAND" on top, and used a distinctive sight configuration where the sight base is visibly set back from the muzzle crown. Fixed sights, with the aforementioned barrel marking, Swiss "Cross in starburst" on the chamber, and a "DWM" toggle. An import mark for Simpson Limited of Galesburg, Illinois is present on the edge of the magazine well. The small parts are straw finished, and the nickel finished magazine is stamped "GERMANY" on the hardwood base. Formerly of the collection of Doctor Geoffrey Sturgess, this pistol can be seen on pages 897 and 898 of the book "Parabellum Pistols Volume II" by Dr. Sturgess and Joachim Goertz, where it was used as the exemplar of the 7.65mm Abercrombie & Fitch Swiss Luger in multiple photographs.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, with 97% of the original blue finish, showing some scattered mild spotting, edge wear, a few areas of gray patina and mild handling marks. 75% of the original straw color is present, with some fading. The grips are also excellent with some dings on the otherwise crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
