This is a very late war 98K rifle that was manufactured by Mauser in 1945 that was originally fitted with a matching serialized long eye-relief ZF41 scope. These were actually intended to be issued as a marksman's rifle to infantrymen with higher shooting skills; however, in some cases they also doubled as a short range pseudo-sniper rifle. The rear sight base is fitted with a integral dovetail on the left side that is fitted with this 1.5x scope, while still retaining the standard regular issue rifle sights. The scope is marked "dym (Runge & Kaufluss)/+ triangle/ZF41/1." It is mounted in a original scope mount that has a "duv/eagle/214" proof. The mount has been etched with the matching serial number (29542) above the markings. The top of the receiver is stamped with the wartime code of "byf" for the Mauser factory over "45". The left side of the receiver has an eagle firing proof and the serial number, and the right side has an "eagle/135" proof. The various parts have the standard "eagle/135" proofs. It has the standard late war stamped steel parts and is fitted a wartime laminated stock and handguard with a cupped buttplate. The stock has a very faint single "Eagle/WaA135" proof on the right side, and it is complete with a front sight cover.
