Introduced in 1964, the SVD was designed around the Soviet doctrine of the infantry sniper; with the intent of extending hits to 800 meters and to replace the aging Mosin Nagant 1891/30 sniper rifles. Hooded pin front and tangent rear sights, with the "arrow in triangle" arsenal mark over "1967" and the serial number (transliterated original: IA-309) on the underside of the receiver, with matching bolt carrier, bolt, hammer, safety sear, safety lever, gas cylinder, receiver cover and trigger housing. Milled receiver, with integral scope rail on the left side. Smooth stock, with vented hand guard and a thumbhole buttstock with clamp-on cheekpiece and a cupped buttplate. Included with the rifle is a 1967-dated "NCO-1" marked rifle scope with a rubber lens cap, sliding sunshield, and integral active infrared detection filter, and one extra magazine.

Excellent, with 90% of the dark matte black finish, showing areas of mild spotting, light handling marks, and some edge wear. The stock is very good, with some varnish loss, scuffing, and some cracking of the cheekpad material. The scope illuminator is untested, but the scope is otherwise very good with light exterior wear and clear optics. Mechanically excellent.
