Only approximately 5,000 Remington-Keene rifles and carbines in various configurations were manufactured in the early 1880s. This rifle has a desirable part-octagon barrel and checkered round-knob pistol grip stock and is also chambered for the ever popular .45-70 Government cartridge. It has a blade front sight fitted to the barrel band, folding ladder rear sight, "45/70" on the left side of the receiver, "E. REMINGTON & SONS ILION N.Y./PAT. FEB'Y 24 MCH 17 1874 JAN 18/SEPT 26 1876 MCH 20 JULY 31 1877" on the top of the bolt, and a casehardened carbine style buttplate with a trapdoor marked "413" on the inside.
