Scarce U.S. Navy Winchester-Lee Straight Pull Musket

Approximately 15,000 of these muskets were sold to the U.S. Navy in two contracts (10,000 in 1898 and 5,000 in 1899) and saw action in the Spanish-American War, Philippine Insurrection and Boxer Rebellion. This musket was manufactured for the second contract. The chamber is marked "U.S.N./[anchor]/No 16551/-J.N.J.-" The left side of the receiver has the two-line address/patent marking. Pinned blade front sight with scarce cover, ladder rear sight graduated from 8 to 20, and small five-pointed star marked on the heel of the stock. Formerly from the Peter and Patty Murray Collection.

ConditionFine, retaining 50% original blue finish with the balance thinning to brown. The lightly sanded and re-oiled stock is very good with some minor handling marks. The markings are crisp. Mechanically excellent.
