Remington No. 1 Rolling Block Sporting Rifle in Desirable .44-77 Sharps

The Remington No. 1 rolling blocks were manufactured from around 1868 to 1888 and were popular around the world, including in the American West were they were popular with buffalo hunters. Features a post/globe combination front sight, "E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILION, N.Y." on top ahead of the notch and folding ladder rear sight, single set trigger, "44 S" (probably 44-77 Sharps) on the bottom of the barrel ahead of the forearm, "ES ST." and "4006" on the bottom of the barrel under the forearm, patent markings on the left side of the frame, "4006" on the lower tang, and smooth stock and forearm with steel cap and buttplate.

ConditionFair overall with dark brown patina and mild pitting throughout, absent rear sight elevator, worn but legible markings, some chips at the heel and toe, hole in the left side of the forend, and general moderate wear. Mechanically fine. A piece of old west buffalo hunting history. Provenance: The John Fox Collection.
