A little under 90,000 of the Medium Frame variation of the Colt Lightning rifles were manufactured between 1884 and 1904. The vast majority of those would have been full blue and have featured the standard stock and pump handle. This 1887 production rifle is a very scarce deluxe Lightning with a casehardened frame and fancy grade walnut handle and pistol grip stock featuring attractive multi-point checkering. In addition, it has been equipped with an adjustable tang mounted peep sight and remains in very fine condition. It also features a Rocky Mountain style blade front sight, the standard address and patent markings, an adjustable sporting rear sight, "38 Cal." on top of the barrel at the breech, the Rampant Colt trademark on the left, blank initial plate, and a crescent rifle buttplate.
