The top barrel flat is marked with the two line address ahead of the rear sight and "38-55" at the breech, and the bottom flat is marked "3" just ahead of the forearm. The Winchester oval proof is marked on the top of the receiver at the breech. Blue barrel and receiver, and casehardened lever and buttplate. Mounted with a smooth walnut forearm with ebony forend insert and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate. The accompanying factory letter verifies the rifle configuration, caliber, #3 30 inch octagon barrel, plain trigger and that it was received in and shipped out of the warehouse on April 24, 1906. The letter also states that at the time of shipment it was shipped with 2 extra barrels (currently not with the rifle).

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The receiver retains 95% bright original blue finish. The barrel retains 85% original blue with some minor muzzle and edge wear, scattered dings as well as some mild thinning on the muzzle. The lever shows 60% muted original case colors in protected areas with a smooth dark patina on the balance. The buttplate retains 80% original vivid and slightly muted case colors with a smooth gray on the balance. The wood is also very fine with some overall scattered minor dings and dents. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is excellent.
