Description:

The included copy of a factory letter for this Third Model rifle lists it in .38 caliber with an octagon barrel and plain trigger and as received in the warehouse on October 3, 1890, but not shipped until September 10, 1891, in order 10909. It has a nickel-silver front sight, the two-line address and patent marking on top ahead of the adjustable sporting rear sight, "38 W.C.F." on top at the breech, "MODEL 1873" flanked by foliate motifs on the upper tang, "38 CAL." on the elevator, the serial number followed by "B" on the lower tang, and standard smooth stock and forearm. The stock compartment is empty.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 70% slightly faded original blue finish on the barrel and frame, strong original blue on the more protected areas of the magazine tube, light original case colors on the hammer, silver-gray patina visible on the lever and buttplate, minimal oxidation, moderate light scratches, and mild edge wear. 20% original nitre blue remains on the loading gate. The wood is fine and has scattered scrapes and dings, mild wear on the sides of the butt, and darker oiled finish on the wrist and forend. Mechanically fine.
