Consecutively Serialized Cased Pair of New York Engraved Smith & Wesson .44 Double Action First Model Revolvers with Pearl Grips

A) Smith & Wesson .44 Double Action First Model Revolver

All frames of the .44 Double Action First Model Revolver were manufactured between 1881 and 1898, but were listed in the company catalogs and sold up until 1913. This consecutively serialized pair (serial numbers 5451 and 5452) feature matching period New York engraving consisting of floral scrollwork on a punch dot background covering 90% of the surface. A wavy line pattern is engraved at the rear of the cylinders. A lanyard ring is mounted on each butt. The barrel ribs have the two-line address/patent dates marking. Matching respective serial numbers are found on the butt, cylinder, barrel, and barrel latch. The grips are smooth pearl. The revolvers came in a period case containing two cartridge blocks holding a total of 32 rounds and a cleaning rod. The exterior of the lid has a brass inlay engraved with the initials "CW."

ConditionVery fine, retaining 95% plus original nickel finish mixed with some flaking mostly on the front strap. 95% original case colors remain on the hammer and trigger. 95% original blue finish remains on the trigger guard. The engraving is crisp. The grips are also excellent with minimal handling marks and highly attractive fiery colors. Mechanically excellent. The case is very good with a repairable lid, some chipping and cracking of the veneer, minor handling/storage marks and typical high spot wear on the lining.
