Description:

The accompanying factory letter lists this revolver as part of a July 20, 1903 shipment of 20 New Model No. 3s with 6 1/2 inch barrels, blue finish and checkered walnut grips for the distributor Andre, Schaub & Pioso, Paris, France. Although the type of sights are not listed, the target sight configuration on this revolver is factory original. The floral scroll engraving on a punch dot background and case were added after it was shipped from the factory, possibly while in Europe but more likely in New York City prior to shipment. Matching serial numbers are on the butt, cylinder, barrel and barrel latch. The barrel rib has the one-line Springfield address, and the left side of the barrel has the caliber marking. Caliber marked New Model No. 3s are rarely encountered. The period leather bound case is lined in red silk and contains a bore brush, wooden mallet, single cavity bullet mold, and bullet seater.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as period embellished, retaining 95% of the reapplied blue finish with the grip straps thinning to a brown, some light spotting, and limited pitting. The engraving is crisp. The front sight blade is absent. 60% of the case colors remain on the hammer and trigger guard. The grips are also very fine with scattered minor handling marks and crisp checkering overall. A small bulge is visible near the breech in the vicinity of the "CTG" portion of the caliber marking. Mechanically excellent. The case is very good with minor to moderate wear throughout. Provenance: Dr. Gerald Klaz collection.
