Description:

From about 1854 to 1879 William Moore and William Grey manufactured fine firearms from their 43 Old Bond St. London address under the name William Moore & Grey. It is likely that this rifle was built during the transition to the Moore/Grey partnership as the barrel is marked with the "WILLIAM MOORE & Co" trade name and the Old Bond St. address as well as the bolster featuring an early platinum lined vent hole while the lock is marked with the "Wm MOORE & GREY" trade name. The Damascus barrel is fitted with blade front and folding ladder rear sights, the lock has a sliding safety, and the trigger guard tang forms a semi-pistol grip. The stock has a shadow line cheek piece and is checkered on the forearm and wrist in the volunteer style.

Rating Definition:

Exceptionally fine, the barrel showing 60% of an attractive plum Damascene twist patterns and the lock and tang retaining 75% original case colors with a smooth grey patina on the balance. The barrel bands retain 85% bright original blue. The wood is also very fine with some scattered minor dings and scratches and a few minor blemishes in the overall crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
