Using the most liberal statistics only 2,500 1st Generation Colt SAAs of the 357,800 manufactured were factory engraved, and the overwhelming majority of those 2,500 were done in the twilight years of production. Thus, an emphasis must be placed on the rarity of factory documented black powder single actions. The accompanying factory letter lists this revolver with a 5 1/2 inch barrel in .41 caliber, nickel finish, hard rubber grips and factory engraving when sold to E.C. Meacham Arms Co. of St. Louis and shipped to W.B. Walker & Co. (address unknown) on February 7, 1895. The near full coverage factory engraving consists mostly of floral scrollwork on a punch dot background along with zig-zag line and dot, fan, and wavy line motifs. The barrel has the one-line Hartford address on top and "41 COLT" on the left side inside a banner, the frame has the two-line patent dates marking followed by a circled Rampant Colt, and matching serial numbers are on the frame, trigger guard, back strap.

Very fine as professionally restored, retaining 99% plus of the nickel finish showing a series of short scratches on the back strap. 97% of the nitre blue remains on the screws and cylinder pin. The engraving is crisp. The grips are also very fine with some minor handling marks and crisp checkering overall. Mechanically excellent.
