A) Engraved E.J. Churchill Double Barrel Shotgun

These shotguns are consecutively serial numbered and each feature A single bead sight on the matte solid rib. The top of the right barrel at the breech is marked "E.J. CHURCHILL. GUN & RIFLE MANUFACTURER" and "8 AGAR ST. STRAND LONDON W.C." on the left barrel. Both have 2 3/4 inch chambers, choked improved cylinder/modified with ejectors. The breech end of the rib is gold inlaid with a "1" (A gun) and "2" (B gun). The gold inlaid "1" and "2" are repeated on the break lever and forearm forend metal. The receivers, break lever, trigger guard and forearm hardware feature fine English floral scroll engraving with "E.J. CHURCHILL" in banners on either side. The underside of the receiver has an intertwined "EJC". The matching serial number is marked on the lower tang, on each side of the water table, on the underside of each barrel and on the forearm hardware. The water table is also marked with two "crown/V" proof marks. The barrel flats are marked on each side with a "crown/GP", "crown/V" and the London proof house proofs, "NITRO PROOF", "12", "1 14 OZ", "12 C in a diamond", "CHOKE" and "MAXIMUM". Double triggers, tang mounted automatic safety with gold "SAFE" and mounted with a nicely figured multi-point checkered walnut forearm and straight grip stock with teardrop flats and checkered bare butt. A 1 inch extension has been added to the stock making the length of pull 15 1/8 inches. Drop at the heel is 2 1/2 inches, and drop at the comb is 1 1/4 inches. The shotguns come with a leather and walnut takedown case with brass corner protectors, leather handle and wine colored lining with a E.J. Churchill label affixed to the inside of the lid. There is an outer leather trimmed pale yellow canvas cover with 5 leather securing straps. In the case is a nickel oiler, two nickel snap caps and a leather pouch containing cleaning rod attachments.

ConditionVery good as professionally refinished with 90% blue finish remaining on the barrels, showing some thinning on the breech end sides and a few bright scratches. There are a few minor dings and some edge wear on the rib. The trigger guard and break lever retain 99% blue finish, and 99% bright case colors remain on the remaining metal surfaces. All of the gold inlay remains. The wood is also very good as modified (see above) showing some scattered minor dings and scuffs and crisp checkering. The markings and engraving are clear. Mechanically excellent. The case and canvas cover are excellent.

Described in "A". The stock has had a 5/8 inch extension added to the stock making the length of pull 15 inches. Drop at the heel is 2 3/8 inches, and drop at the comb is 1 1/4 inches.

ConditionVery good as professionally refinished with 98% of the blue finish remaining showing some high point wear. 99% of the bright case colors remain. All of the gold inlay remains. The wood is very good as modified (see above) and refinished showing some light sanding marks on the stock, some scrapes into the finish on the stock, and overall some minor dings and scratches, and crisp checkering. The markings and engraving are clear. Mechanically excellent.
