Description:

Desirable WWII M1C Springfield Armory Garand sniper rifle sold through the CMP Program in March 2015. This model was developed in late 1944 and was the standard issue sniper rifle during WWII, Korea and into Vietnam. It was eventually replaced by the M1D sniper rifle version which could be produced in-house by Springfield using a newly manufactured replacement sniper barrel fitted with a mounting block directly on the barrel. It is estimated that approximately 4,000 were produced during WWII with hundred provided to various NATO allies in the late 1950s/early 1960s and hundred destroyed by the U.S. Government in the 1980/90s. This rifle was originally manufactured in late March 1945. It was overhauled/rebuilt at some point, and it is now fitted with a Springfield Armory barrel marked "3-SA-7-44". It is fitted with a set of WWII Springfield Armory manufactured parts, as follows: bolt, -17SA, hammer -7 SA, trigger housing, -2-SA, uncut op rod, D35382-9SA. It has WWII narrow base gas cylinder and an unmarked round top gas cylinder lock and a four-slot gas plug. It has a matching scope base fitted with three screws and two taper pins that is numbered "3663653" on the underside. The rifle comes with an original blue, WWII Griffin & Howe scope mount numbered "3372530" on the right side which is fitted with a blued, commercial Lyman Alaskan scope with the standard cross-hair reticle. The scope tube has the three line company markings followed by serial number "23074". It is fitted with walnut handguard set and a walnut buttstock. The stock has a faint boxed "SA/NFR" cartouche on the left side and a circled "P" proof in the grip area. It is equipped with a green web sling and a "HART" marked, milled M2 flash hider. It has an all dark black metal finish.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 98% of its arsenal refurbished black finish with only minor edge and high spot wear. The wood components are all in very fine plus condition with minor handling marks on the sides in some areas. The G&H scope mount and Lyman Alaskan scope are both in excellent condition with 90% plus of their blued finish overall, the scope showing minor edge wear, blue loss on the scope caps, and clear sharp optics. A nice example of a correct CMP documented M1C sniper rifle.
