Webley "WG" Army Model Double Action Revolver with Union Castle Line Marking

"P. WEBLEY & SON LONDON & BIRMINGHAM" is marked on the barrel rib, "455/476" on the left side of the barrel lug, "'WG' ARMY MODEL" on the left of the top strap and "WEBLEY/PATENTS" and the winged bullet over "W&S" along with "UNION CASTLE LINE" on the left side of the frame. British proofs are present. Matching numbers are found on the left side of the grip frame, right side of the frame, cylinder and barrel. From 1900 until 1977 the British owned Union Castle Line operated a fleet of passenger liners and cargo ships between Europe and Africa. During World War I, many of the company's ships were requisitioned by the British government for service as troop ships or hospital ships, and 8 of its ships were sunk by mines or German U-boats during the war.

ConditionFine. The revolver retains 50% original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina. There is some very minor pitting on the grip straps. The grips are also fine with some minor handling marks (mostly near the bottoms) and a few nicks in the overall crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
