Description:

This is a solid representative example of a 1944 dated WWII British Enfield No. 4 Mk I (T) sniper rifle, complete with its sniper scope, with mount, No. 8 Mk1 metal scope can and the green wooden storage case. The buttsocket is marked "M47C/1944/A2636/TR". The rifle is fitted with a late No. 32 Mk 3 scope that is marked on top of the tube "TEL.STG.No 32 MK3/O.S. 2039 A/CTS No. 20737". It is marked with blue "B" on the scope tube indicating it has bloomed lens and it comes with a set of WWII British leather lens caps. The scope rings are numbered "198" and "199", respectively. The mounting bracket is stamped with a maker's code of "KD" on the side with the serial number "H33394" (non-matching) at the top. The rifle has the standard blade front sight and Mk I rear sight and it has a matching numbered bolt and box magazine. It is fitted with later pattern semi-pistol grip walnut buttstock, original matching numbered forestock and late handguards. The replacement buttstock is stamped "S51" directly behind the pistol grip area, a pot metal/aluminum buttplate with trap compartment. The wrist is stamped with two different scope serial numbers. The comb is fitted with a birch wood cheekpiece held on with two screws. As noted this lot includes an original No. 8 Mk1, B&Co manufactured metal telescope can and an original "S.A. No. 15 Mk I" marked green wooden shipping chest. The inside of the chest has the original wooden dividers/compartments and the correct equipment label on the inside of the lid and a single strap leather sling.

Rating Definition:

Very fine overall with 90% plus of the arsenal blue/black finish on the metal which has been over painted with olive drab camouflage paint. The scope and mount retain 95% of its original blue finish overall with clear sharp markings and optics. The rear buttstock is in very fine condition with a nice dark brown oil type finish with minimal handling marks on the sides. The forestock and top handguards have all been arsenal refurbished/sanded with light marking have a light varnish overall. The metal scope can is also very fine with most of an arsenal refurbished green paint and the storage chest is in fine condition green painted exterior with clear markings, however there is a very noticeable crack starting in the lid.
