This rifle appears to have been built by the Winchester custom shop in the Classic Custom Grade Express pattern. It has been masterfully engraved by Norbert Triebel (1935-2017), possibly at the time of manufacture, as the quality of engraving certainly meets or exceeds factory standards. Triebel signed his work "N.TRIEBEL" on the floorplate near the trigger guard. The receiver, floorplate, trigger guard, and grip cap all show a coin finish and nearly full coverage floral scroll/vine engraving. These parts also have the "Big Five" relief inlaid in gold with a rhinoceros and lion on the left of the receiver, elephant on the floorplate, leopard on the trigger guard, and cape buffalo on the grip cap. The receiver and floorplate also have some gold vine accents, Winchester trademark on the left of the receiver, and gold inlaid serial number on the right. The bolt and follower are jewelled. The barrel is fitted with a hooded beaded blade front sight and elevated three-leaf rear sight with gold inlays. Both sight bases are lightly engraved. The barrel also has a gold band and light engraving at the muzzle, "SUPER EXPRESS" amongst the standard left side markings, and a 2 1/2 inch section of engraving and gold vine work at the breech. Mounted with a finely figured checkered pistol grip stock with contrasting forend, sling swivel studs, cheekpiece, and solid rubber Winchester recoil pad. The matching engraved scope bases and rings are fitted with the included Redhead 3.5-10x40 scope.

Excellent as master engraved, retains 99% plus blue and coin finishes, and gold inlays with some very light spotting on the bolt handle and some light cycling wear. The wood is also excellent with a few scattered light dings, nearly all of the finish remaining, some mild drying/cracking of the recoil pad, and sharp checkering. Mechanically excellent. The optics are clear.
