This rifle is a representative example of an assembled USMC M40A1 type sniper rifle that has reportedly been built by one of the retired USMC armorers to resemble an M40A1 sniper rifle. The complete barreled action, scope base, and rings are all mid to late 1960s production commercial M700 Remington parts that have been properly assembled to include clip slotting the receiver and remarking the left side of the receiver ring with "U.S." The serial number, "284335", is outside the known and documented original USMC M40 serial number range, so we know its NOT an original USMC sniper rifle. It has been fitted with a new production, very heavy weight, stainless steel target pattern type barrel that is only marked on the left side "RTE-P". The root of the bolt handle has been stamped with the last four digits of the serial number, "4335". The left side of the receiver is marked Remington Model 700, and it has been properly clip slotted and fitted a new manufacture M40A1 type one-piece Unertl type scope base and ring set. It is fitted with an Unertl USMC 10X sniper scope, serial number "1424". It is fitted with an early pattern M40 type MacMillian camouflage fiberglass stock with a Remington marked rubber buttplate. The complete action and rear section of the barrel has been glass bedded with the front section of the barrel free-floated.

Fine as custom assembled/upgraded to current configuration. The stock is also in very fine condition with light scratches and handling marks on the sides showing wear and areas of thinning with the original fiberglass batting material showing through the camouflage. The scope, mount and ring set retain 95%of their gray/black type finish and the scope has excellent optics.
