Description:

The Webley-Fosbery revolvers are among the rarest and most interesting of all of the Webley revolvers and are one of the few "automatic" revolver designs. The upper portion of the firearm is pushed back under recoil like the slide of a semi-automatic pistol and causes the cylinder to rotate and cocks the hammer. This allows the revolver to have the light trigger pull and the fast follow up shots of a semi-automatic pistol while remaining relatively mechanically simple. This large frame .455 Model 1903 Webley-Fosbery was manufactured in 1903 or 1904 per "Webley & Scott Automatic Pistols" by Gordon Bruce. The consignor indicated the Army & Navy C.S.L sold the revolver to Capt. J. W. Ottley of the Indian Army. It has a blade front sight on top of the integral raised base, an adjustable notch rear sight, "WEBLEY FOSBERY" on the left side of the top strap, wide groove on the sides of the barrel lug, holes in the holster guides to cut down on weight, the long pattern cylinder adapted for use with loading disks, the winged bullet trademark and "455 CORDITE" on the left side of the frame, lanyard ring on the butt, matching partial serial numbers on the back of the barrel lug and front of the cylinder, and the full matching serial number on the right side of the frame as well as multiple action components under the grips, backside of each grip, and left side of the butt.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 60% plus original blue finish, patches of mild oxidation/pitting, gray and brown patina on the balance, distinct markings, and general mild wear. The reoiled grips are very good and have crisp checkering, mild scratches and dings, and a chip on the top of the right panel at the front. Mechanically excellent.
