Description:

Dated "1944", this rifle was manufactured by Birmingham Small Arms Shirley and selected for upgrade to the "T" sniper pattern. Manufactured using hand-picked service rifles as the base, the 4 Mark I T was Britain's sniper rifle from WWII into the 1960s. Blade front and folding ladder rear sights, with the fixed "battle" peep sight properly removed from the latter, and the left side of the socket marked "M47C/ENGLAND/1944/R31353/TR". The bolt is numbered "C37788". It has a black finish with a walnut buttstock, forend and handguards. The comb of the stock is fitted with a hardwood cheekpiece held on with two wood screws. The top of the wrist is stamped with the number "24714", and the underside of the forend is stamped "S.L." and "31353". A set of commercial-style Birmingham proofs are present on the muzzle. It is currently fitted with a replacement No. 32 Mark III sniper scope marked "O.S.2039A/AK&S No 22886/1945", with the standard post and crosshair reticle pattern, installed in a rough cast base numbered "V36378". Also included is a green painted hardwood transit case, paint marked for an address in Toronto, numbered to a different rifle, and noted "Less Scope".

Rating Definition:

Very fine, with 95% of the arsenal matte phosphate finish, showing some light wear and handling marks. The stock is also very fine, with a few dings and scratches. The scope shows mild external wear, with some wear on the central post and the optics otherwise in fine order. The case shows mild wear and tear appropriate to age and travel. Mechanically excellent.
