Manufactured in 1925 and subsequently professionally embellished. The rifle has standard Winchester markings including the factory oval proofs on the barrel and receiver, a raised dovetail blade front sight and an elevation adjustable sporting rear sight. The receiver, breech end of the barrel, magazine and lever are very nicely floral scroll engraved with gold inlaid wire accents. There is a thin gold band around the muzzle and the sling swivel ring is engraved with the same floral scroll design. The left side of the receiver also has a gold inlaid bear, and the right side has a silver inlaid bear and a gold inlaid lion. The lower left edge of the receiver is signed "L. SHERMAN". The forearm and straight grip stock are nicely figured walnut with a floral vine carved forearm and stock wrist with punch dot background. The forearm has a contrasting forend and the stock has a cheek piece, sling swivel and checkered steel shotgun butt plate.
Very fine as elaborately master engraved and embellished. 99% plus blue finish remains showing only light handling marks. All of the gold inlay remains. The markings and engraving remain crisp and clear. The wood also shows only light handling marks and crisp carving. The action is excellent.
