Description:

This is one of approximately 9,000 Richards conversions manufactured in 1871-1878 based on designs by Charles B. Richards; Richards was also one of the designers of the Colt Single Action Army, and some of these revolvers were manufactured alongside the Single Action Army and are believed to have seen significant use in the Old West. Standard markings associated with this variation, including matching serial numbers on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, cylinder, and butt and secondary conversion serial number "176" on the breechplate and loading gate. There are two holes drilled and tapped on the butt, likely for a lanyard swivel. The left grip panel is carved with a Mexican Eagle gripping a snake in its beak as well as the letter “S” and “V” on the left and panels respectively.

Rating Definition:

Fine, showing traces of the original blue and silver finishes with flashes of case colors on the frame. Some pitting at the muzzle, the ejector housing, and cylinder. Some marring on all most of the visible screws as well as the barrel wedge. The grips are also fine with age cracking and yellow coloration, but the carving is crisp. Mechanically excellent.
