Colt Model 1860 Army Richards Cartridge Conversion Revolver with Carved Grips

This is one of approximately 9,000 Richards conversions manufactured in 1871-1878 based on designs by Charles B. Richards; Richards was also one of the designers of the Colt Single Action Army, and some of these revolvers were manufactured alongside the Single Action Army and are believed to have seen significant use in the American West. The revolver's serial number dates to 1872 and it has the standard markings associated with this variation, including matching visible serial numbers and "4504" on the loading gate. The right grip panel is carved with a Mexican Eagle holding a snake in its beak.

ConditionFine, showing traces of original blue and silver finishes in the protected areas. The balance shows a mostly grey patina mixed with areas of brown. There is evidence of chemical cleaning, mainly on the barrel. The grips are fair, the right grip has a broken section at the top and there is some general shrinkage. Mechanically excellent.
